The VV decided against nominating a candidate for the esteemed position of Prime Minister of the Loudenese Parliament. This decision, although criticized by the media, was a strategic maneuver in order to achieve VV party goals. By not having a candidate of its own the VV was able to better negotiate with competing parties. The environmental voice was strengthened and in essence every other candidate had to consider environmental policies that would satisfy VV members.

VV leaders recently met via teleconference with Drew Nelson of the U.S. Department of State. Mr. Nelson worked for the EPA before shifting to the State Department. He elaborated on U.S. environmental policy and actions taken by the U.S. government to combat climate change.
Q: Recently, former VP Al Gore proposed a 10-year plan that would call for the U.S. to produce 100% of its electricity from carbon-free renewable sources. How realistic is this proposal?

The WWF recently submitted a statement to the G-9 arguing for stronger leadership in the fight to lower global emissions. Scientific research confirms a larger threat than the G-9 has prepared to combat. Cutting global emissions by 50% by the year 2050 will not be enough. G-9 nations emit over 60% of the carbon-dioxide trapped in the Earth’s atmosphere. As a member of the G-9 it should be the duty of our republic to take more initiative and act more ambitiously. Action with a sense of urgency must be taken if we want to protect our people, our environment, our nation and our world.

VV party leaders recognize the necessity of global cooperation in easing the threat of climate change. As a party to 25 international environmental agreements, the Republic of Loudenia is an example for other developed and wealthy nations to follow. However, it the belief of the VV that our Republic should not be satisfied with our government’s efforts. As a developed world leader it our responsibility to push even further to combat climate change and to protect the environment. A complacent government is a vulnerable government. The VV stresses the real threat of drier summers and violent storms as caused by climate change. Ambitious targets must be set in order to spur progress. Greater investments in renewable sources of energy and new technologies must be made to ensure our future.
